Swapping my stock tires for 265's. I can get good deals (even trade )on Goodyear ATS, Dunlop, or Firestone Steeltex. I tow 5-8000# ,75% of my mileage. Also should I stick with the "E" rating or can I Use the "D" rated load rating. Any advice is appreciated.

Look on the sidewall of both your stock tire and the replacement tire you are considering. Both will have a max load capacity rating. A 8 ply 265 is usually pretty close to a 10 ply 245 tire due to its larger size and air volume capacity. Finding 10 ply rated 265s is a bit tough but a few companies make them.

I just put 6 new TOYO "Open Countrys" on my dually. The're 235/85/16 10 ply. I absoutly love them. Smootest truck tire I have ever had. Makes my dually drive like a Caddilac. And they are not expensive, about $125 each.

I just bought Firestone Steeltex because they were the lowest price (I know firepops). What amazed me is the E range 245 was rated at 3048 lbs and the D range 265 was rated at 3000 lbs. Close enough for me to switch to D range to try and get a little smother ride. The air pressure is the most important part for a smooth ride. I run about 50 lbs solo in the back, and 65 lbs towing.

Steve: I am also looking at the Open Country A/T for my 3500 and would like to go with 235s.

Do they rub under load ?

Did you use spacers ?

Thanks, Todd

Todd, first of all remenber my dually is lowered 7". See pictures. No the 235s do not rub. I think if I carried a lot of weight which I don't I would install aux air bags so I could adjust the height per weight carred. I put 225/75s on the front.
