-IF a guy knew where to get better clutch disks for the Allison

-If a guy knew where to get a brand new Allison 1000 for $2800 to do mods on

-IF a guy knew a great tech to do the install

Would better clutches be enough to hold more power without slipping in the Allison?

Does the converter really need to be replaced. The main benefit of a billet converter is it will stand up to heat better and maybe added friction material on the converter surface for lockup. But if your tranny doesn't run hot and if you're not having lockup problems then is a billet converter really necessary?

Different valve bodies or mods to increase line pressure seem to lead to harsh shifting. So are valve body mods really necessary?

Are better holding clutches all that is really needed to increase the Allison's holding capacity?

1) MORE clutches

2) Improved pressure regulation

3) elimination of the TC bolt "legs" that will crack free from the housing.

4) Improved application of the clutches.

These are all issues best left to the experts. ATS and Suncoast have both done a lot of pioneering in this regard...

#1 & #3 could be incorporated in the homegrown version

#4 too, depending upon how Allison has this thing put together... One would need to study the hydraulic diagrams and dissect the transmission itself to know for sure.

I'm waiting for mine to frag... Any day now and it'll come apart for a SoMnDMAX rebuild... #1 will be taken care of- have lathe, will machine.... :D

SteveO- might need a parts list... ;)

I would think #2 and #4 could be done by altering the programming, which one will hopefully be able to at home one day like you can now with LS1-Edit on other GM transmissions.

So a couple hundred bucks for additional clutches, and perhaps five bills for the software which would also give you the benefit of allowing you to tune the duramax as well.

One day perhaps...

Its more than just clutches......more like how the pressure is applied to the clutches........r&d takes time and money just ask ats or suncoast.....or edge

Moderators have no problem with posting links to websites that a member has found useful--MP confirmed this a while back. They just doesn't want unpaid advertising. The foul is when a guy starts posting his own website for his business without paying for advertising.
