2DAMAX,

What did they do to fix it? I guess I am stupid, what is the steering rattle? When does it occur? My truck rattles when I am braking at a say a stop sign and the road is rough. Not sure where the noise comes from. Sounds like soemthing is loose up front. My steering is tight.

2DAMAX,

Please let us know what they did! Did they use the new bearing? IF so, was it the same part number I had them try to no avail? If so, I don't understand how it works on two trucks, but not mine.

Thanks,
Kyle

Your "rattle" sounds like the ABS. If you brake on a rough surface, the wheels break traction (from bouncing) and the ABS activates. It's just the nature of the beast. This is just a drawback to an otherwise excellent brake system. It can get real bad if your shocks are worn out. Hope this explains it.

I don't think it is the ABS. I know what that feels like. This is a very hard banging around sound like something is loose up front, but I can't find anything loose.

The service writer said they removed the steering gear box and replaced the upper pinion bearing assembly. All I can say is the steering is real tight now and im real happy.Good luck to all. :D :D

2DAMAX,

Do you have part numbers?

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle

the part number is on this board- there is a post "Steering rattle fixed"....

I called the dealership mentioned in that post, and got the part number-its for a bearing kit for the steering box.

My truck goes in tomorrow for it.

Brandy,

I know the "part number" is on this board. See my post under "Steering Rattle Fixed." What I was wondering from 2DAMAX, is if he had the same part number for the new bearing assembly installed, or if it was something else, or a different bearing/part number. If it was the same, that makes it even more difficult for me to understand why this bearing works on two trucks, but not mine. The dealer attempted to install the new bearing last Wednesday, but it would not fit on my steering shaft. Inner diameter was too small. They showed me the bearing, and it was the right part number for the "fix."

I am just looking for some answers, I am even more frustrated knowing that folks are getting their trucks fixed and the "fix" won't work on my identical truck!!

Insight/suggestions appreciated
Thanks,
Kyle

AHHHHH sorry Kyle, I saw the post too..stupid me...

Tomorrow when I go to the shop with ours, I'll talk to the service manager about yours not fitting....who knows maybe mine wont either...

Is your truck a 2001...? I'm confused because some people on here have some 2 piece steering shaft, some have a single, etc... gets me totally lost!....I'll include what he has to say in my post tomorrow evening upon my return from the dealers....
I can imagine your frustration- I had a d*ck head dealer that was just plain dumb when it came to my truck..so frustration has been my friend lately too, hopefully with the new dealer, my days of being p*ssed are done!

If you have had the fix, please verify the part number and description.
If my service manager won't try the fix without a TSB, I may be driving a great distance for the fix.
