I am in the process of removing my engine. I had taken the drivers side valve cover off to check for broken rockers or whatnot.

I just noticed last night that all my valves are closed on that side. Intakes and exhausts. This seems really odd to me. On SBC gassers, I dont think that there is any point in the rotation where ALL the valves on one side would be closed.

Is this normal? BTW I am past the point of being able to turn the motor over, so I cant check if there is any motion at all. But it DID run (poorly) when I started the tearout.

Yes it is normall the valves are opened by hydrolic lifters( read oil pressure to work)

Yes it is normall I disagree. If the lifters are collapsed they will not open fully, but they still should open. Some that should be open may be closed ( the ones that should be only slightly open), but not all of them.

the lifters should hold oil to a point, unless they are completly shot. Are all the pushrods in good shape none bent?

Kris~

How exactly did you get 425HP out of a 6.5? What all mods have you done, and how many miles have you put on it at this level of power?

thanks!

Could bad lifters have been part of the original problem with the engine?

I don't know if it matters, but the firing order isn't the same as a Chevy gas engine.

18726543 for the Diesel

18436572 for the Gas
