Hi People,

I watched the 200,000 number come up today,
so I can expect something to make new sounds
and this new sound is in the drive train.
I have a clunk when I shift to drive after
backing out of my driveway. Has anyone got
this many miles on 1994 Chevy K 3500,410 pos.
rear-end, 4L80-E trans, 6.5TB engine? If so
I would like to hear what changes had to be
done in the drive train.

Thanks,
Bill

Hey Hot Rod, Try the U-joints. Mine did the same thing at 198000 miles. Lineman

Hot Rod,
You might just have enough wear in your differential. I have over 300k miles on one of my GM diesels. When changing the rear end fluid, you can see that my gears are worn pretty bad. With the wheels off the ground, you can move them and see how far they have to move b4 the drive shaft moves. In mine its quite a bit! I don't tow anything with that rig anymore so I don't worry about it. If it breaks, I'll do something, otherwise....
BTW, I really don't know anything, this is just my experience and opinion!

Hey Bill
I had 94 and at 120,000 I started with a clunk like you have, I just traded it in on a D/A and at 180,000 miles it stil clunked going from rev to fwd. But it never gave me any problem but the noise.

At 170,000 I replaced the clutch packs in the rear diff. An easy way to check them is to grab the drive shaft (truck on ground) and see if it turns more than an inch or so -- mine actually free wheeled almost 1/2 a turn they were so bad.

I have a 93 3500 with 176000. It was doing the same thing and I greased the slip yoke.(It has a grease fitting on it). It has not done it yet.
