My friend came by with a 2002 2500HD from a local dealer that he was thinking about buying and wanted me to look at it. It was kind of rough for a truck with 9900 miles on it, with a few scratches in the paint and a bad detail with a flat black spry can. The big kicker is that the hour meter showed will over 2200 hours. My truck has 19000 miles and 725 hours. I think this is a huge red flag. I told him to run, dont walk from this truck. A friend bought a Ford F350 from the same dealer and found out that his truck "lost" a ton of miles when they did the dash swap. Anyone else run into this problem?

That is a real big red flag. I would bet you that "puppy" has in the neighborhood of 75,000 miles.

A high average in mph would be anything over 35 mph...... my 2001 has 46K and 1520 hrs.... mostly highway miles...

That's about 4 mph. It must have spent its life commuting in northern New Jersey traffic tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

When I got my truck, brand new, it had something like 38 hours on it even though the odometer read under 15 miles. I thought that was strange. The dealer is a reputable one, and the window sticker showed that it was first delivered to that dealer. I looked it over closely and it did not appear it had been driven for 38 hours.

Maybe it was closer to 20 hours. It was not a big issue with me.

It was probably in the oil patch up north. I have seen many vehicals up north with lots of hrs and very little milage. One guy I know leased a truck and diden't turn it off all winter. by the end of the year it only had 17000 kms on it, many many hrs and the body had been beat to rat sh1t. Run, dont walk away from it is a very safe bet. I was putting lots of ideling time on mine untill I bought a Wabasto.
Cheers

Mine has 9200 miles and 267 hours!!! Something is fishy with this truck. I would pass on it.

On a 2002, how would you find out how many hours are on it? I know that the 2003 has an hour meter but was not aware that my 2002 had one. Can anyone direct me to this feature?

With the key off, push and hold the trip odometer button. Your hrs will appear ;)

If the truck came from Canada, someone did have to screw with the gauges. I believe that the entire IP has to be swapped. If there are used US IPs on the market, one could easily have been swapped in. When the IP was changed, they probably reset the odometer to match the metric IP that was swapped out, but did not reset the hour meter. Brokers would be the expert on how this is done, since that is what he does for a living.

I called the dealer asking about the truck and they told me " the truck is no longer for sale" My friend called them back and they told him its going back to the broker by way of the Washing State Patrol. They told him they ran it down to the local Chevy dealer and the two items don't come close to matching.
Next problem My friends Powerstroke came from the same dealers Ford lot and guess what? same problem, the miles just done add up. To top it off the $45,000 truck runs like S#@t. You never know you may see the dealer in TV if you live in the Tacoma/Seattle Washington area. Thanks for the input

My 2500HD is a Canadian convert also. I bought mine from my local GM dealer and everything checked out OK. They cover all warranty work also.
There is another used car lot that specializes in 3 year old to new vehicles in Anchorage. I came across several Duramaxes with the same problem. Low miles and high hours. You were smart to walk away.

Broker.....seems like the hrs on these trucks is not changable like the miles are. Can you fill us in?
