Last summer I had the dealer check out a cooling problem with my A/C. He added freon and it was near the end of the summer so I really could not be sure whether it helped on not.

The A/C is definitely not getting the job done now. Do I remember correctly that someone mentioned GM had identified the problem and a new part would be installed when available? If so, any update available?

I did a search but could not find it but I don't think I am having a Senior Moment.

Thanks,

If freon is added, it leaked somewhere. It will be low again. You need to fix the leak.

at slow speeds these truck dont cool off very well! I have heard the 04.5 lly truck have a faster turning fan and comes on slightly sooner. My 01 moveing was cold but parked would get warm! the lly trucks fan comes on more standing still.

I remember the bulletin as well. I think it was related to a pressure switch.

I've got the same problem. My 2003 DMax just will not cool in traffic. Yesterday my GMC dealer performed the 35,000 mile service and couldn't find anything wrong. I have discovered that it actually cools better on low fan speeds. If anyone knows of a GM bulletin on this issue, I sure would like to see it. Thanks.

I've never seen an air conditioner that wasn't as described. I've always used the fan lower than max for the best cooling. I've never been in a vehicle that cools really well parked. You can fan air across the condenser but you'll cycle more air while moving. Also, the compressor has to work at idle engine speed.

In a lot of small engine vehicles (1.0L 3 cyl types, a high idle switch is installed for ac while idling. Some also add an electric fan switch.

Jim,

I had the same problem with my '04. Took it to my dealer before our recent trip to Yellowstone. They said they knew what the problem was. They replaced an orifice in the system and it works as well as my '01 did. Nice and cool, quickly in Texas heat. Major improvement.

With the auto temp control model, if you press the Recirculate button it will cool much better, but you must press it every time you start the truck which is a real pain. The only time it will automatically go into recirculate is when there is a difference in temperature between where you set the inside temp and the outside temp, and the difference exceeds about 25 degrees.

I battled the AC problem all last summer with my '03. Had it to the dealer 4 times with no improvement. Replaced orifice, control panel, low pressure switch, compressor and had actuators calibrated. Now that is into the upper 90s here, it's uncomfortable again. I went to drive an '04 last week and was considering a trade (good chance to move up to a crew cab) and carried my vent thermometer with me. The thermometer saved me alot of money. The '04 did not work ANY better than my '03. Apparently a poor design, for Texas anyway. My wifes '03 Tahoe will freeze you pretty quick, as well as the other '03 & '04 gassers I've been in. I am willing to spend MY money to do something to improve my cooling. I considered adding an electric fan in front of the condensor, but testing with forced air at an idle made little difference. My truck is white and with a shade in the windsheild and windows cracked on 95 degree day setting in the parking lot, a one hour drive at 75 mph will only cool the cab of the truck down to 80-81 degrees. Duct air temp will eventually drop into the 60s. Open for suggestions.

Was driveing home yesterday 103 the a/c set on the lowest temp and the recycle on and still I was warm. For get it if you were on the side with the sun. This was on the Hwy not in stop and go traffic.

Today outside temp was 92 deg. With the a/c on recirculate, the vent temp got down to 38 deg. after a few miles. My truck hasn't had the TSB done for the a/c. Cools well enuf for me.

David,

Is your truck a Crew Cab? Seems like the Crew cabs put the most stress on the A/C. The A/C in my 03 CC was poor until I had the pressure switch and recharge TSB performed. Works pretty good now - no complaints.

My truck is a extended cab. Do you have the TSB number handy? I may call my stealer and ask about it. My truck cools well enough(38deg) once I get down the road, would be nice if it would cool the cab down a little quicker after starting off in slow traffic.

Took my DMax in this morning and got her back by noon A/C fixed. It was over charged, just like the Weak A/C Soulution before. Works good so far. 95 outside and cool inside the cab.
