when i put the truck into gear it makes a loud clunck (ujoints are fine) then when you shift from d to r it makes the sound then about 4 to 5 seconds later it makes another clunck if you dont wait for the second clunck (backup right away) it makes a bad sound and feels like you have been rear ended a couple of times now when driving in town then slowing down for corner it feels like i get rear ended and makes a bad sound i have also noticed that when 4x4ing it seems to start to hop or kick in and out of gear

its hard to explain and the dealer says i dont know and srugs his sholders good service for paying around $50000 can for a truck any help would be great

Dan,

This sounds like an extreme case of the "two piece drive shaft clunk" The 01's had trouble with this, I have felt this same thing on mine, usually when pulling up to a stop light. I think there was a TSB about this issue. They fix it by replacing the drive shaft with a large diameter aluminum(sp?) shaft. There was also an issue with a yoke in the drivetrain.

I think its just more annoying than a real problem, but yours sounds a little worse than the ususal case.
