View Full Version : Silverado sales down 27% in Feb
I was reading the 'numbers' column in the new Time magazine, and they mentioned that sales of Silverado trucks (presumably 1500-3500) were down 27% in February.
I wonder if this is also true of the "other two", or if GM is loosing ground to them?

That depends; do they have a frontend that looks as crappy as Chevy does? ;)
They're probably all down, but by how much is anybody's guess.

I'm really glad I opted for the 2002 model. The front end of the 2003's really is ugly!! Hope they do something else to it sometime soon or they'll definitely lose ground to the other 2. Rey

Ironically GM truck sales in the last part of the year 2002 did well! With GM trucks on average (feature/option to feature/option) costing more that the other big 2, GM relies on incentives to offset the higher sticker MSRP.
GM rebates/Incentives more than anything else drive GM truck sales. For Example, GM trucks sales rose 9% in December 2002! Why? They offered the highest incentives ever $3000+ rebates and/or 0% plus $500. GM has put themselves in a very tough position, they must continue to offer larger incentives / rebates or risk losing market share.
I think GM should bite the bullet and lower the price of the trucks and stop this insane Rebate game. It's going to backfire on them if it hasn't already!
BTW, The luke warm acceptance of the Chev 03HD front end didn't help sales!

Particularly if it had Michelin tires!!

The reason the late 2002 sales were up...there was a rush to buy the remaining good lookin' 2002's!!! :D
A couple of thoughts here. First I really like the look of my 03, I just wish they came with bigger tires. And second there seem to be a whole bunch of them on the road here in Anchorage. When I bought mine back in December I had only seen maybe half a dozen on the road. I thought my truck would be somewhat unique for a while, but boy was I wrong they are everywhere. This is in Alaska mind you where 2 out of 3 vehicles are pickups or SUVs. And on that note I think it's safe to say that Dmaxes have sold very well here as well. I think some of that may be atributed to the superior cold starting ability of the Dmax. And third, from a business perspective it would be more appropriate to compare February of 03 to February of 02 than to compare different months of the same year. My .02.--Nick
