Hope the moderators don't mind this question as it is not truck specific.
The wife's 02 SS camaro is due it's rear diff oil change. Normally I would use redline or Mobil 1 or another quality syn lube. This SS has an Auburn diff. and the book specificly prohibits the use of syn gear lube. I think that the seals are not compatible with syn.
? Who makes a high quality non-syn lube? I don't mind paying for it.
P.S. I don't consider Quaker State from wallyworld as high quality

GM's non-syn recommendation has nothing to do with the seals. The Auburn limited slip differential is not compatible with syn oil. Syn oil will not cause any damage, but it will render the limited slip feature useless.

Read here- http://www.auburngear.com/aftermarket/products/differentials/

This isn't exactly the same differential that's in your car. The design is similar. The cone clutches are metal on metal (no friction material), and the syn oil is too slippery.

The differential in the Camaro would be more like this one with the spiral grooves on the cones.

Any good GL4 (not GL5) rated gear oil will work. Valvoline, Mobil, Mystic, etc are all good oils. Also, use a bottle of GM limited slip additive- I don't have the part number handy, but your local GM dealer will have it in stock. The additive will help to keep the Auburn from chattering around corners.

Installation manual for the Auburn. Goes into maintenance, do's/don'ts, etc.

Hope this helps.

I have an Auburn Gear in my "other" truck. Been using Valvoline without any problems for over 5 years now.

Thanks a lot guy's. I knew I would get the real deal here. Facts not opinions. In particular thank you SoMn for the link. I was leery of non-syn as I cooked the rear end of my 93 Z28 on the Autobahn when I was stationed in Germany.
BTW, GM replaced it under warranty no questions asked and the German Tech in Frankfurt was very specific about using syn lube as the temps in the rear end at those speeds is very high.
And thanks Moderators for allowing me to post it.
