I start the Dmax up Monday morning and all of the sudden Allison goes into limp mode. The service engine soon light comes on and the next day the dealer says that it is the Tranny range switch, it will be in this PM.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hey there,
Yes, I had to change out the range switch in my 2001 Alyson tranny. Cost me over $240. The truck would not shift out of 1st gear. Drove 40 miles in low gear at 20 mph to the nearest dealer that had a tranny tech. They fixed the problem but could not tell me why the switch went bad. Just prior to the failure I had been forced to cross some flooded washes and I think it shorted somehow. Wish I knew for sure.

Mine was in the shop for 2 days because they had to order the part from some outsource. Fortunately I had 5K left on warranty and they gave me a loaner.
Dont know what I would do with out a loaner.
BTW the loaner they gave me was an 03 pickup with only 10miles on it. I could not believe that they would do that but maybe they like the way I break them in.
I put over a hundred mile on it.

That switch has been a problem on the Allison. There is an upgraded unit available. Seems it doesn't like to get wet! But sometimes you can get going again by cleaning and drying the wire connectors on the switch.
