ndamico,

Looks EXACTLY like the one I got last fall from Fred. IIRC, the 'ship from' address was the same city.

My Allison temps (pre-scoop install) usually ran 1 tick or so below 200 NOT towing, city or highway (with Transynd/deep pan). The after scoop install temps now are always in the 150-175 range. It works as described.

Since the hottest part of the summer had passed when I installed the scoop, I can't comment on the summer performance but expect similar results.

Mdrag,
Did you notice any increased temp in the engine? It looks like the scoop blocks the radiator a little. Thanks.

I have a FRED SCOOP on my truck.

Haven't towed with it since I installed it at the end of the summer. It did lower tranny temps quite a bit. Almost too much!! This winter the tranny seems to take a real long time to warm up and it runs close to 150 or less quite often. When we were in KY for the holiday it never got over 120 or so. But it seems to have no affect on the engine temps at all.

I found a small 8 inch fan that was with or without temperature control. I was thinking on mounting it in front of the tranny cooler. When she creeps, it would come on or I could flip a switch. Thoughts?

Agreed it wasn't the prettiest thing I ever saw. That said, once it's installed you really don't see it. And it works fine for me. Then again I have the correct brand of truck. smile.gif

Silver Bullet,

I have not noticed any increase in coolant temps in any situation so far.

Not scoop related, but I have noticed a substantial reduction in trans temps after the switch to Transynd. I haven't towed big, so I cannot comment on the temp reducing benefits during a tow. I would guess it would help all the same, though.

I've got a "Fred Scoop" too. I just got back from Florida where my trans temp stayed 150 or less in 90 degree heat on the interstate with A/C running. Engine temp wasn't a problem. In the Carolinas and Virginia on the way back the outside temp dropped to the 30s and my tranny gauge was just barely over 100 degrees all the way into Maryland. The scoop is not real pretty, and one of the "hooks" on one side of mine had come loose in shipping. I glued it back in place with some epoxy and the booger did snap right into place after an overnight cure. Seems to work pretty well.
