Does anyone know the NBSU part number? I have searched and only found 29540479...but I am not 100% sure this is the part number.

Is the NBSU a GM part or can it be purchased from an Allison Service Center?

Thanks!

Silver Bullet,
That number is the part number for the new style, tan colored NBSU. That is what you want. I believe that number is GM's part number, but many on this board recommend you get the part from Allison at about $60.

Several have indicated their dealers are charging twice that amount.

Any Allison service store should know what you mean when you ask for the NBSU part for the allison 1000 transmission. Make sure it is tan in color.

Good Luck, Don

I wish I knew what NBSU was, but I don't.

It's the switch on the Allison that controls the selection of the gears. Typical failure symptom is no readout of the gear shift indicators. Also you might only have a limited choice of gears when you try to drive. The original unit was black in color. The replacement is tan.

Silver Bullet,

Check the 2nd link in my sig, then choose the Allison NSBU album. In the first or second picture, the box with the part number is clearly displayed - and it is for the new TAN NSBU switch kit (switch and plastic cover).

That part# is from Allison - I don't know the corresponding GM part#. I bought the switch from Stewart & Stevenson in Wichita Falls, TX and it was about $50 - $55. It'll be much more $$ from a GM dealer - IIRC Maverick paid over $100 for the switch from his Chevy dealer

Good luck.

I got lucky...the dealer is going to cover this under warranty! The Silver Bullet should be good as new by the end of the day.

It is amazing in the price difference for the NBSU...

dealer...$150
gmpartsdirect...$75
Stewart and Stevenson...$52

Thanks for the help!

Hi Guys,

So everyone knows..

Silver bullet posted the Name Stewart & Stevenson NSBU at 52 bucks..

Stewart & Stevenson is the Allison Distributer for Texasand a few other western states. $52.00 is pretty much the norm for an Allison Distributer...

29540479 is the same part number whether you bought it from a GM Dealer or an Allison Distributer or Dealer...

Thanks guys..

I got the Silver Bullet back today. Everything appears to be working well in regards to the NBSU. The shop foreman mentioned to me today he had 4 Allison's in that had to have the NBSU replaced!
