View Full Version : Worthless Parts Dept
I finally got around to replacing the axle seal. Friday last week, went to dealer to buy seal. Tear truck apart on Sunday, obvious that he sold me the wrong seal. Put the truck back together. Took the seal back today. After explaining to the parts guy the difference between a pinion seal and an axle shaft seal, I point to #12 and #13 on his parts screen and tell him to get those. I get home, take the truck apart again and realize he only gave me the outer seal. I tore up the inner seal removing it, so I can't put it together this time. This is ridiculous. I expect better from the dealer parts counter. They should make some effort to help you feel better about paying over MSRP.

Yep, seems like every time I go in I'm turning their computer screen around so that I can look at it and point to the pieces that I need.
Part guy: "Nope, that model only has four bolts and a gasket, no seal."
Me, turning screen around so I can look at it: "No, that piece there, six bolts, seal, and no gasket..."

I hear you. These guys behind the counter are not parts pepole. They have no clue to how any thing goes to geather ore how it works. the one I like is I need the ven.# I can not do any thing with out a #.
What happened to the day the person behind the counter toke pride in being able to pull A part from memory. And be right 99% of the time.

Actually, even I start with the VIN number. smile.gif There seem to be so many mid-year changes anymore that just saying that the truck is a '92 or a '97 doesn't mean anything. There could be three different versions within the same year on some things.
And sometimes the VIN number does not help either, ordered a rear wheel stud with the VIN no. and waited a week to pick up the frontwheel stud the yo-yo ordered, too short*da!

Saywhat, I need to replace a rear stud as well...looks like the hub has to come off--is that what you had to do? How do you get the hub off? I went to change my stud today; removed the axle but then saw a big nut in the center--does that have to come off? Searched the net to no avail looking for instructions. Thanks for any help...direct email is alpo4@adelphia.net.
