Don't know if this has been mentioned before but I saw it at the state fair didn't have much time to look at it (wife and kid were ready to go), but did notice that the tires were 265/75/16.

I was toying with the GMbuypower site the other day and built a 3500 srw. According to the build your own site, the 265's will be standard on it. :(
I new I should have waited to order this truck instead of the 2500HD, but I just didn't want to wait until January for my new truck.

flhr,

Since they now have "officially" installed 265s on a DMAX with Allison you might get your service manager to reprogram your truck for the larger tires. Add a set of airbags and you have, essentially, a SRW 3500.

The black 3500 SRW they had as the Texas state fair along with the 265/75/16's had the secondary rear leafs and pads just like the 3500 DRW trucks.

Anyone know if it would be possible to retrofit the secondary springs and pads onto a 2500HD?

Thanks

Sure......but only on a long box truck. The 2500HD and the 3500 share the same frame, there fore the holes are already there on a 2500HD long box to add the overload springs from a dually. There are a couple people here that have done it. I suppose you could maybe do it on a short box but you would be drilling. Wouldn't know if anything would be in the way.

Why put on an extra leaf spring when you can install air bags?

Derik,

The air bags route avoids the nasty empty truck slam you get when the overload springs contact the frame rails. The air bags hold more weight and I believe give you a modesty better empty ride as well. I recently traded my 2500 with air bags. and just recieved my '04 3500. Today I ordered a set of AirRides with the new auto level pump setup. I plan to remove the overload springs when I install the bags.

Good luck,
Bob

Would you be willing to part with the o/l springs?

Shortly after purchasing my truck, I removed the longest removable leaf from each side of my 3500 and added Air Lift Air Bags with onboard compressor. Doing so improved the empty ride and I haven't had any loss in towing/hauing capacity ... Jim

were the rims different on the 3500 SRW with the 265's?

Where on gmbuypower did you find a 3500 SRW to build! I can't seem to find it :( Talked to dealer today and pricing isn't out yet and most likely won't be until they hit the lots  Why do they always do this

The wheels on the 3500 SRW I saw were a different style than what's currently offered with the steel or forged aluminum wheels. I was unable to determine if the wheels on the 3500 SRW were wider.

According to my online ordering guide at the dealership, they only wheel available with the new 3500 SRW is the steel wheel. Hopefully they will change this as we get closer to production. By the way, the HP and torque figures for the LLY engine are exactly the same as the LB7. Hopefully this will change as well! I will keep everyone posted as we get more up-to-date info.
