Hello, I've just towed with my new 2500 Duramax with the Allison transmission. I began towing at about 900 miles or so on the vehical. Towed about 5600 pounds, to around 120 miles. I've heard that after your first tow, that you should get your transmission fluid changed. Just wanting a little more imput if its out there...

Thanx, Robert

I don't really think that it is necesary to change the fluid this early in the game. 5600lbs isnt really that much of a load and they don't even recomend it in the book until 50,000miles. That said I personally change mine every 25-30k I'm rather hard on the truck and I figure for what it costs it's cheap insurance.

Your fluid should be fine. It is a recommendation that you change your Allison spin-on filter after the first 1500 miles (DON'T FORGET THE MAGNET!)and Eaton says the rear diff fluid should be replaced after the first 500 miles of towing.

Thanks for the info, I'll wait for the 500 mile towing mark before my diff. change...

Just dropped my pan, to install a deep pan and Transyn synthetic fluid. What I found was a gray matter on the two magnets  . With only 2500 miles not towing. I'll change the spin on filter in another 2500 miles and see if anything appears on the magnet. I guess they put those magnets in for a reason. ;)

My dealer said to change the Allison filter after the first 7500mi. Is this not correct?

After seeing what the fluid looked like on my 2001 and 2004 I would change the fluid in the rear end after 2000 miles and and the t case after its been run in 4x4 for more then 10 miles and do the trans spin on filter at 2000~3000 miles ! the fliud on both of my trucks was gray with LOTS of fine metal in it! This may seam a bit much for some but oils cheap, ITs your truck......
