View Full Version : Headrest Removal
Hello,
Does anyone know how to remove the rear headrests in a 2001 Ex-cab? Got a new child seat and it would fit better if the headrest was removed.
Thanks.
those are adjustable right? If so just slide it all the way up and locate two small holes in the sides of the plastic retainers at the bottom of the posts. insert a small "seal pick" like tool in both or one at a time and pull up. there is one hole in each trim retainer.
heres the procedure from GM....
Raise the head restraint to the full up position.
Insert a paper clip or a similar tool in the hole at the side edges of the head restraint retainers.
Press in on the tool in order to release the retainer clips.
Lift the head restraint from the retainers.
Thank you very much. I put my truck on a boat today, I will try that procedure when I pick it up in LA.
Thanks again.

This is best done with some help. You need to release both sides and pull at the same time. I have done it by my self but it's not worth the grief. Have one person working the two paper clips and the other pulling the headrest. It's not hard to do. It just takes three hands.
