View Full Version : leaf spring "insulators"

Has anyone else had any problems with the insulators on the ends of the thick bottom leaf of the spring pack missing? I've recently noticed a clicking noise coming from the rear of my truck on rough pavement and discovered that two of the four insulators are missing and only the mounting stubs of the other two are there.

Is there any kind of recall on these?

Does anyone know the part number for these or a new and improved part?

Had mine fall out shorty after buying the truck brand new, stealership replaced them with rubber band type isolators that actually stay on the truck, no clattering since.

I had the same thing and they installed the slip on isolator and everythings fine now.I'll try to dig up the sheet with the part# on it later.

Thanks for the response, it looks like my first visit to the dealer for a repair.

That goofy clicking can drive you crazy with the windows rolled down.

Strange, I just replaced the front on each side of mine as well. plastic things I have the part# at home and will post it later if no-one else has already. They are like $2 each...

They replaced mine with the thick slide on ones as well -- much better than the original, Service Manager said they were from an earlier model year.

Did any of you have a misalignment problem with the bottom leaf as well. One of mine is out of line about 1" or more at the front, but the back looks OK? I wonder if these isolators will help that as well?

No the isolators wont help the alignment of the springs but a sledge hammer will :D thats what I used and worked very well.

As a result of the bottom rear spring leaf on both sides shifting our of alignment, my dealership replaced both of my truck's rear springs at about 16,000 miles. New ones seem to be fine but only have about a 1,000 miles on them. :cool:

would you mind posting the part number for your insulators. Just discovered the noise that sounds like the rear end is falling out is from a missing insulator on the left side. aaargh!!!

The part# for the plastic discs that attach to the front and rear end of your bottom load leaf and minimize noise is #15604067 they are sold for about $2 each.

FYI - you don't need to spend any of your hard earned money to fix the spring isolators. There is a TSB for this condition, so the dealers should fix the problem by replacing the factory discs with rubber muffler hanger straps.

I had mine replaced when I noticed one missing recently.

Its not really a muffler strap,its a rubber gromment that slips over the end of the overload spring to prevent the clanging noise of the two leaves slapping on one another.I'll see if I can get a pic of them later.

Just had mine replaced with the rubber slip-on insulators 2 weeks ago.
The part number is 15604174, Insulator 7.513, quantity 4.
Installed no charge and I am a happy camper because I have been hearing that clacking noise for about 3-4 months. Hope this helps.

My dealer says that number you gave is a Tahoe number. They did the fix after they got the correct parts though. They knew about the problem and fix though. Sounds much better now going over bumps.

Huh -- go figure. I have a '94 K1500 that had the same problem. The dealer did the same fix 1 month after I bought it (Dec. '93). No problems with it since then. You would think that in 9 years the engineers would have addressed the problems in the design (and this is coming from an engineer!)
