Bent at the jam nut. They did heat it up, bent it back and drove it away.

I saw that pass :(
WE NEED STRONGER TIEROD SETUPS!!!!

The 68psi Silver Cummins/Dodge going ~12.9 at 106mph seemed the class of the Diesel Hot Rod Association meet at Great Lakes Dragaway Saturday 10-4-3...but I didn't stay till the end or memorize everything either smile.gif That Dodge had a 2 turbos, one pumping into the other 2-stage, to make that boost. I think it had propane too. He trailered his truck there with a gasser smile.gif

There were some Duramaxes there, running from low 15's down to 13's, dunno if any did 12's.
---a big ol' 3500 going like 14.5 @ 89 with a painting on his tailgate...
---Black D/A with ATS tranny upgrade, propane and a 'not released' special Edge Juice did 13.75 @ 99.x mph...with that great mph he could definitely go way quicker ET if he works on his 60'/launch. Maybe it did better than that, I didn't stay til the end.

I too wish they had one class for heads-up all-out fastest, and one for bracketracers. Great Lakes Dragaway does the same thing on Import Races--ALL bracket with NO heads-up all-out quick-8 class, so that killed off really fast people who USED to come from out of state to compete. Too bad.

(thanks to MAV for corrections, incorporated above)

xwing,

Got your call, but I did not go. Too much stuff going on with shop construction, plus, I doubt that I have enough tranny, let alone tie rod...

That silver Dodge did a 12.92 @ 106.xx mph. He was fast. He did get beat by Forced Induction with his Dmax at the finish but broke out I guess and had to give up his win to the Dodge.

The black dually was double stacked with 2 Bully Dog units and an exhaust. He wouldn't say which ones. I thought he bent his tie rods also. He did a full boost 4x4 launch and man does our front ends flex. It looks ugly.

This guy and the bent tie rod guy were buddy's and both trucks were set up the same.

Another Pewter Dmax with an upgraded tranny by Huck and a Edge 150 juice was doing 14.3's.

Rumor has it that Quadzilla is making tougher tie rods for our trucks and will be released shortly.

did any of the guys with problems have their torsen bars lowered all the way down?

The black GMC that ran the 13.75 was I know. Don't know if this guy was or not. These two guys were buddy's and said their trucks were set up the same.

Where were you Mr. Tomac? We were looking for ya.

too far to drive for bracket racing

Mav, When I raced the 12.94 dodge it was a double break out run. We both broke out, but I broke out by more. The truck just kept getting faster all day. The Margin of victory was .006 seconds to the dodge. Oh well, maybe next time. He broke in the final after beating a 14.4 dodge dually.
As far as stock times go I ran a 16.30 or so stock and now 14.78 with only a 90hp juice and K&N (6800lbs). Also note that all my runs were in 2wd at the Grove this time, for consistency. I wanted to make a final pass in 4wd just to see if it would dip into the 14.6's but I figured I abused it enough for one day.

I made some searches and one question remains unanswered:

"Is there ANY alternatives to the stock tie-rods, ball joints ...etc"

My front end is desintegrating very fast and before spending money I would prefer a stronger alternative.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I went to the drag races with Sdaver in AL one night for test and tune. Michael Tomac had told Dave to lower the front end back down to stock height or so. We did it (only took a few minutes) and went to the track. I drove it for 3 passes (don't ask, Dave or Michael could make a rocking chair go faster than I race  ) and in 4x4 it handled and launched with no fuss whatsoever - almost felt like you could let go of the wheel and it would go straight as an arrow.

I really really recommend you take Michael's great advice and lower the front end and eliminate the stress on the steering and front suspension.

Now to tell the whole story, Dave did later discover his idler arm was shot, but I think he feels, and I'm convinced, that the damage was done from innumerable hard launches in day to day driving with the torsion bars cranked up. I believe that lowering it for the track runs saved us from a *lot* of grief.

Speaking of grief, some poor kid (nice, but embarrassed) got his supercharged, 32 valve Cobra SVT spanked by a 7250 lb diesel truck, IIRC he ran an 8.55 vs Dave's 8.39 in the 1/8th, talk about getting smoked!

As he and Dave pulled back into the pit area, all of the poor guy's friends were hooting and razzing him mercilessly! the first thing he said when he got out of the car was "I need slicks!" I told him, "Yup, that and a different pulley for your blower!"

Dave, ever the gentleman, with a gleam in his eye, asked him if he wanted to go again. I think he knew he'd only get the same or worse again, so he declined.

The only problem with Dave is he can't (or won't) hustle anybody. He doesn't know how to sandbag. ;) He went to the line and gave it all he had every time. As a consequence, he never could get any of the Lightnings to line up with him, they didn't want any part of him!

This reminds me, I've been thinking about a nice big sticker to go on the back window of your trucks.

My tow vehicle is faster than your race car

What do you guys think? Giving too much away? ;)

Regards, Steve
