I was kinda muffed to see that my new '03 2500HD CC would not have an airbag cutoff switch for the passenger side. My old '00 K2500 CC SB had no air bags, and it worked wonderful for those times when we had a few extra kids. Turns out the new trucks only have the switch on standard and extended cabs.

For those who would like to have a switch installed, GM sells a switch kit that can be used on CC trucks. Part number is 15036140. List is around $81, and it fits from '01 to '03. Thats the easy part. The big question is who's gonna plug it in? Turns out you need a form from the NHTSA. Once they approve your form (you gotta give them a reason why you need it), there is a listing on their site of installers. Keep in mind the installers won't even talk to you until you have the approval in hand. Lots of legal issues here. I spoke to one installer, and when I have the switch and NHTSA forms, the rest of the install will be around $100. Its hard to find installers, and none of the dealers in my area were even remotely interested in doing the install. All the NHTSA forms are located at:

Legalize stuff-
Interesting , While my 01 was in for The NBSU switch I rented a 2003 Suburban, It had an indicator that let you know if the right side was activated or not, Playing around with it I noticed it seemed weight sensitive, I put my tool case on the seat & it indicated airbag off - As soon as someone sat in it that was resonably heavy - the light indicated ON --

That might be a nice option...

I would like to do this so my little buddy can ride up front with me.
This part is available at GMPartsdirect.com pretty cheap.

Any of you experts out there with schematics that would like to explain where to wire this in (in simple terms) feel free to chime in.

The reason that a CC doesn't have a switch is that in most states it is illegal for a child to drive in the front seat when there is a rear seat in the vehicle. Read the traffic laws and you might be surprised.

I have a 2003 Silverado HD with the D/A and just went through the same thing except that when I purchased my truck the window sticker indicated that it had the passenger sensing system. But after a week on the phone with Chevy customer service, and the dealer, I find out that not only is it not on the vehicle but it is not offered on any HD truck.

Following the logic that in some states you can't have a child in the front seat makes sense, except that they do offer these systems in the 1500 and 2500 extended cabs. I had a 2001 2500HD extended cab and it had attach points in the rear seat for a childs car seat. Why one but not the other. If its illegal it should be for both.

The dealer called back this afternoon and said that GM informed him today that there were some HD's shiped with the wrong sticker. I just happened to get one.
