Changed the spin-on filter on the Allison at 4100 miles. The fluid was a clean red color and the magnet had some metal particles on it. Does this look like too much wear or normal for a new tranny?

nah, just the magnet doing it's job in a new tranny. No worries!

I've had a "coating" of black metallic powder on my Alli magnet at every filter change for over 100,000 miles now. There's a lot of metal-to-metal contact in the planetary gear design of the Allison. No worries, and a good reason for the magnet to be there.

Thanks guys! I'm not used to having a magnet, or even a spin-on filter on a transmission.
