Sent the little lady down to the dealership with the truck today to get the Service 4WD light coming on issue fixed and had them change out the rear dif fluid as well. I sent down 4 qts and they used 3qts. What check I can do to make sure the level is correct - is it open the dif add hole and expect to see fluid running out or dip the pinkey in or what exactly - I'd read on TDP in the past that 4 qts is what is typically used. Thanks in advance for any help. Murf

4 quarts is the norm.

Yes, take the plug out of the fill hole...should be up to but not running out.

Murf, I would be double checking that level. Always takes four to fill if fully drained

Murph- It takes 3.83 quarts to fill the 11.5 rear used on the 2500HD or 3500 with the Duramax or the 8.1 liter gas engine according to factory info. To check the level, back out the fill plug in the rear of the pumpkin and the level should be 1/2" below the hole. Check by sticking your finger in until you feel fluid.
