I have recently been told that a new Mercon 5 Synthetic Tranny fluid is available that is ok for Allison Tranny.

Does anyone run this? And if so how is the performance. How does it compare to Transynd (other than being a lot less expensive).

I've heard that Transynd is not a true synthetic and Mercon 5 is. Is this correct?

Thanx
Jim

There was a huge thread some time ago on Transynd. You may find it under the "search function". It is full sythetic. I just got a 5 gallon pail for $135 from my nearby Allison dealer. The Allison website shows the list of approved fluids. I would stick with what Allison approves. Just my opinion.

The following Questions and Answers are from the Allison Web site FAQ section.
If the Mercon 5 Fluid is DEXRON III, then you can use it.

Q. Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) - Can I use synthetic fluid?
A. Any fluid that meets DEXRON III requirements is suitable for use in the Allison 1000 Series
