If one upgrades to a larger tyre size e.g. 265's instead of the stock 245's, can one fit the larger size to the stock rims ??
At what size would one have to buy new rims ?
Excuse me if these a dumbo questions, but I'm not an expert as Mackin knows :D :D Hey Mac, I'm the only guy with a 40-30-40 front bench seat !!! ;) tongue.gif redface.gif

Hi Andrew

All of the tire shops in my area agreed with going to the 265 but no one recommended going any larger. I just installed 265's on my stock rims. No problems with fit.

the 265's will fit the stocker wheels [gm does that for their 1500 z71's spare tire. 265 on 6.5" wheel]. if you do decide to buy other wheels, go with an 16x8" wheel [if you want to stay with 16's] and 4.5" - 5" of backspacing. with a wheel like that, you can run a 265/75 if you like, but you can go all the way to a 315/75 if you ever get the urge to lift your rig.

AndrewF,

If you want a little more tire height, try the 255-85x16. The tire is around 33" tall and fits the rims fine. No rubbing issues at all.

Thanks Max, please clarify whether these tyres fit the STANDARD rims the truck comes with ?
Also any downside to this size of tyre on these rims that you can think of ? It would be nice to have a larger tyre to fill-in a bit. Think the standard tyres are out of proportion to the truck. I think your suggestion would make it look a whole lot better. What about corrections to speedometer/milometer etc ?
Mine is a Duramax ZF6speed CC 4X4 short bed, onyx black , bench seats.

Andrew,

I've got Dunlop 255/85-16s mounted on the factory alloy rims. They look much better and fill in the wheel wells better than the stock skateboard wheels.

They fit fine, ride smoother, drop the RPMs and look better IMHO.

Check out my truck pictures to see exactly how they look. Pretty inexpensive at $105 each so I bought 5 and an extra alloy so the spare matches.

Regards, Steve

Steve, many thanks . The pics look great and the tires fill in the wheel well much better than the stock 245's. I think this is the way to go. How have your Dunlops stood up ? Are they the 'Radial Rovers ' ? Apart from breeding Max's , I see you also breed Fords and Dodges !!! :D ;)

AndrewF,

Yes, I mounted the 255-85x16s on the factory PYO rims. No rubbing issues at all. I really like the tires and haven't run across a down side.

In my situation, the speedo/odometer are off 10%. I have had it checked by radar and by pacing friends on the road. The dealer recalibrated the computer, but I believe it was for the ABS, not the speedo. The good thing about the 10% error is you will now have a 110,000 mile warranty :D

Look at my signature below for pictures of my truck (CC, LB, 2WD) with the 255-85x16s. Let me know if you have any other questions.
