Has anyone had this happen to them?

Did the prescribed change of rear diff oil after 500 miles of towing. Snugged everything down and went on my way to round out the 1,200 mile trip.

When I returned there was blackish sooty stuff all over the back of the tailgate and front of the trailer. Initially I thought the truck may have been blowing smoke and getting everywhere. That is until yesterday when I saw a small puddle under the rear diff.

The fill bolt had worked loose and was leaking diff oil. The oil must have been dripping out and the wind sprayed it everywhere. I refilled it and it took more than half a quart. Man, I hope I didn't ruin this new rear gearset. The only thing I've got going for me is I was using 80W140, so maybe it was well protected.

Search works. I needed the bolt torque spec.

I am going to use Amsoil 2000 series 75W140 since I am pulling 13.5K. Saturday we head out for 1700 miles so the juice will get a workout.
