Serviced the tranny & transfer today, bought a filter kit at AZ, got the pan off, (found the drain plug stripped, made a mess).

The "old" gasket was rigid with spacers around the bolt holes, pretty heavy duty, haven't seen one like that before, the REPLACEMENT, thin cork/rubber.

I used the old one.

Next time I will also leave the filter seal in if it will hold the new one.

Those OEM gaskets should be good for long time/many uses if you dont damage the o-ring.They are about $40, so use it as long as you can. My truck has 130,000 with the original gasket in service-no leaks.

Good call on using the old one. Those are designed to be re-used indefinitely. Unless, as was said, you damage it. This is a concept that is long overdue!

NAPA trans pan gaskets are NICE (well, were, been a while.)

I think I read somewhere that GM recommended they be reused (unless damaged of course). Who wants to goop up a cork one anyway?
