Rear axle lube

I'm sure this was hashed out before, but I couldn't find a definite answer. How soon should you change the rear diff fluid on a limited slip? And Please, not wanted to start an oil war :D Is there any reason why Amsoil synthetic gear lube won't work? Does the limited slip require an additive with the Amsoil gear lube?

I changed my oil @ 1000 miles, and now again at 25,000. I'm planning on a 25,000 mile change interval for the front and rear axle lubes.

Amsoil will work fine, use 75w-90 Series 2000. If you tow heavy, you could go to 75w-140. Since you live in Montana, 75w-140 may not be a good idea due to the cold temps you see in the winter. I use 75w-90 Amsoil in both the front differential and the rear differential.

No additives are required OR reccommended in either differential. As long as you use a fully synthetic gear lube in the rear differential, you'll be OK. Amsoil or Mobil 1 are both fully synthetic.

I don't know how many miles You have on your truck but I would wait until You have towed a few miles before changing the oil. The weight causes the limited slip to really break in and the friction material will significantly darken the oil.Then again the Juice has probably broken in the limited slip already. :D
I am using the Amsoil in both front and rear. I changed the rear at around 1000 mi and again around 15000. I just got around to changing the front and I would not reccomend waiting this long. There was a lot of material on the magnet of the drain plug.

I have 2700 miles on the truck, couple hundred pulling 13,000 and about 500 pulling 5,000. I'll change the rear diff right away. What about the transfer case? Any reason to give it an "early" change, or is it like the front diff? (wait till around 10,000)

The transfer case can go longer before changing it out. But once you have drivin while in 4 wheel drive for 100 miles or so, I would change it. Even sooner if you use 4x4 often.

It takes about 2 quarts of ATF I have Mobil synthetic ATF in mine. I changed it when the truck had about 3700 miles. (After I had used 4x4 about a dozen and a half times. 45-50 miles total)

I did the rear diff at 3K and the front at 9K (since I don't use the 4wd that often) I'm using Amsoil too.
