Does this (http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile?Dir=publications/pubs&FileToGet=GN3465EN.pdf) mean Rotella T (and many other motor oils) are APPROVED by Allison/GM to put in the Allison 1000 tranny?!?
This is directly from the Allison Transmission website. It is found under the Approved Oils publication from "Allison Transmission Department/General Motors Corp".

Well its dated 2/12/01. Reading through the list I would say that is is ALL the approved fluids for ALL the Allison applications, not just our tranny.
Im sure others with more knowledge can decipher it though.

NO NO NO Only ATF fluid goes in the Allison. I don't know what that document was all about, but it talks about both ATF and motor oils. Motor oils do not meet the spec called for in the allison.
This is a list of C4 Approved oils.............notice the listings in the "Approval No." column......all the approval numbers are formatted "C4-xxxxxxxx".
The following is directly out of the Allison 1000/2000/2400 Series Service Manual:
".............only fluids meeting DexronR-III specifications are acceptable. TranSyndTM fluids fully meet the DexronR-III specifications."
A lot of Allison's other products call for fluids meeting C4 specifications. The 1000 Series in your truck ain't one of 'em!

That's cool. I knew it was for C4, but wasn't aware of the Allison specs. I know I wouldn't ever put anything in mine except Dex3 or Transynd anyway. Those are cheap products considering how frequently I change them. I just found it interesting as I was perusing the Allison website.
