92 K miles on 96 K3500 80LE ( 4x4)

Changed tran oil and filter , Oil very Black.
And Alu flakes in fluid, No metal on magnet, no ferous in oil, Any guess whats going
bad or is this normal wear.? Some ref to Rear
housing bearing ? previous posts, can't find it.

Oil had only 20K Miles ( with 3000lb load ).
Did add some kind of Additive at last oil change. ( Mech said it was real good stuff, begining to wonder )

Transmission is running good, shifts good,
but does get a lot of " unlocked converter " use
on hills....Temps run 210 deg and below
except on really hard climb, than up to 250-270
for short time ( temps at oil into coolers)

Installed DEEP Pan with plug, will drain in 1000
miles and check again, Hope it does not get
worse...

Well the 4L80E has aluminum spool valves and so forth in its valve body, and these give trouble if the fluid is'nt changed regularly. The stator in the torque converter is another place where the flakes may have came from. Not sure however;just a guess. It could of originated from anyplace. But if it runs smooth and shifts okay,i would'nt worry about it.

THANKS,
Noticed the 5.7
I had a 80 truck with the diesel, 1 of the best
trouble free trucks I have owned.
Only second to my 82 .
