I have 11,300 miles on my truck and I have noticed that I can feel a light "clunk" in the steering wheel when I go over a bump or if I am turning left or right I get a light clunk also.
Seems like it will do it once and then go away. The next day as soon as I drive it will do it once and then it is gone for that day. This is strange.
Seems like if I let it sit overnight it comes back. Clunks once and that is it for the day.
Any ideas? I have plenty of grease in the joints too. I heard there was an issue like this with the older model trucks but mine is a 2004.5.

Had the same problem, Chevy has a fix for that. They put a different steering shaft in, to take up a small gap that causes the clunking. The old fix was to pack it with grease. Take it in the warranty will cover that.

I have a 2002 2500, however the steering shaft has been improved on the trucks and subs.

may be a torsion bar crossmember bushing. What dealer does your work.
