Well, at 70K my first thing to actually go out. Called the dealership, and they wanted $245 for the Delphi ACD one. Called the local parts store who also handles AC delco, and they were at $150. Hmmmm... guess which one i chose. Anyway, I put it in yesterday, no problems, except.... my voltage kept dropping. I was at ~11.5 volts, and went to the next ABC Autoparts in the next town to explaing. They said that they DO get bad ones. So...here goes again...another alt to bolt on. Finally working. Didnt know yesterday morning when I woke up that I was going to be strapping on not one but TWO of these things. So if yours goes out call me. I can have em swapped in LESS than 7 minutes now. :D :D

Good to hear you finally got a good one installed. Kinda ironic that we were just discussing broker's 6 alternators in 400,000mi, which avgs out to 67,000mi ea. So you got a couple thousand extra mi out of yours... ;)
Regards, Steve
As 70K seems about typical for my alternators, I change them out at that time. I have a whole pile of them. Wish I knew what went out, but suspect the brushes go, perhaps a diode. For reliability purposes, I would rather use a factory rebuild.
When mine goes I believe I'll go the Mdrag route...

Well, you want to hear a GM alternator nightmare?
On my 97 Tahoe, I now have 170,000 wonderful miles except for alternators. Extended warranty replaced 9, THATS NINE, at $383.00 a pop.
Last one went out at 105,000 miles & I stuck number 10 on at a whopping $149.00 from the local cheapy auto parts store.
STILL GOING STRONG! So much for Delco when it's my money.
By the way. No problem with my DMAX alternator at 15,000, YET.

interesting side note here...
when my alternator on my powerstroke went out at 170k miles,
I installed a AC/DELCO remanufactured one because of the lifetime warranty that ford wouldn't give me....
Soooo. go GM ???
