i am going to change the lube oil in my G80 rear end. and the question i have, when all of you change oil do you all run the same weight 75W-90 or are you going to the heavier weight for towing. i thought i read some where to use the 75W-140 if towing. i will be towing but not a lot.

make sure you buy synthetic oil, and you must change oil after 500 miles of towing or before to get rid of the wear particals that appear during break in period. oil weight is your call based on application, light towing or heavy towing.

not to scientific good luck.

The 75w90 should not be any problem, I stuck with the lower wt due to winter temps. If I lived down South I would go with the heavier oil.

Tow or haul a significant amount of weight for about 500 mi before changing the oil. This will allow the clutch pads in the G80 to break in and discolor the oil with material.

74w90 Amsoil is what I'm running, but I live in NJ and don't tow anything really heavy, so I stuck with the lighter weight.

I just completed a 1600 mile trip with our 7600 lb travel trailer, and will do a one time change of the fluid with the GM purple lube. Dmaxtechalli sells it for a reasonable price. To me its worth the peace of mind from a warrenty perspective to run the GM spec'd lube.
