View Full Version : 2001 vs 2002 rear diff.
I am picking up my new truck tommorrow and before I do would like some help answering a question. On my last truck, 2001 d/a CC SB 4*4, I had the G80 locking diff and it was clearly listed as a extra at $300 and change on the invoice , the new one, 2002 exactly the same, it has the locking diff listed in the standard equipment area and doesn't show any extra cost. Am I get the same rear diff as my last truck had?
Any input would be greatly appreciated
The G80 was an option on my '02 Sierra.

The G80 is standard equipment on the Canadian 2002 trucks. I guess they figure we need it up here in the Great White North. :D

HEY, WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND HERE!
GM gives you Canadians free hats, shirts and now free G80 lockers? I love you all as much as the next guy, but I didn't get any freebies with my truck... well OK, I did get 0% financing, but a hat woulda been nice...
Regards, Steve
thanks Mowser, and everyone else for your replies , I do fell better now. Its no fun with a powerful truck and only getting one tire to spins when you do brake torques at the lights , just kidding! tongue.gif
Don't worry, the cost of the hats, tee-shirts and the G80 locker is carefully inserted into the cost of the truck ;)

In Canada, the G80 is standard on LS and LT. On the base Silverado it is a $375 option.

IMHO,
Any vehicle capable of planting 300hp and 520 lbs/ft pf torque stock should be built with a locking differential without any one even asking whether or not it's needed.
I was surprised by the answers I got from salesman when I was browsing lots before ordering my 02 upon seeing several trucks in stock with the options that I wanted BUT, were ordered without the G80 option.
I've heard:
"Why would you want that?? It is a 4x4 you know that right??
"Only people that go 4 wheeling off road would buy that, you aren't gonna spend 40 grand and then drive thru the woods are you??
And the best one of all was:
"GM stopped putting them in trucks when they went to push button 4 wheel drive cause it only takes 2 seconds to push that little button right next to the steering wheel."
OK, glad you told me that!!! I really didn't know
GMC :D
