Just rec'd a memo from GM wanting feedback for putting 265s from the factory on 2500hds. I've allready sent back that about 75% of our customers change out the tires for larger ones and 100% complain about the "doughnuts" that they come with.
The way I undestand the memo is that they are in the final stages of the engineering process to make sure the larger tires don't cause any problems. Look for it coming soon. They didn't give us a date.

Tell them we completed the engineering process a long time ago and to go ahead :D :D

Maybe it will remove the warranty stipulation.

Well, they've only been running 265/75/16s on the 1/2tons since 88. You would think that would be enough to convince them that a drivetrain multiple times stronger would probably handle the same size tire without too much drama.

Hopefully they will include 01'-03' trucks in any changes or allowances thay may occur in newer models. i.e. reprogramming for the larger tires and retracting the TSB about customers coming in for any issues concerning the Allison and larger than stock tires.

Until I found the tire size issue on the forum, I had no idea GM was so adamant against larger tires. The dealership had installed 285/75R16s before the truck hit the showroom floor. Guess they're a little more forward thinking than GM. :D

is gm going to make new alloy wheels to mount the 265/75/16's on? there are no tire manufactures that will warrent the 265's on 6.5" wheels...

Tell them we want 285's instead! :D Or better yet, 315's...

I guess the 3500 Dually is not going to get bigger tires than the balogny skins it currently comes with, is it? Aside from the obvious wimpness they exude...they (215/85/16)cost about twice as much as a set of Michelin 235/85/16s.

Nick,
my dealer here in So Cal (Big Brand) is warrantying (sp??) my Michelins, but the 265's is as big as he would with the stock rims.

I dont know if it was an individual dealer thing or not.

TxDMAX,

The 3500 question is a good one. Any mention of a larger tire for that truck?

Thanks,
Bob

It wasn't all that long ago that you were unable to get a E rated 265 tire. Michelin was about the first, and I believe Dodge was the reason Michelin went this way. Now there are MANY tire manufacturers making a 265 tire with a good heavy E rating.

I agree though about the dually tires. They should re-engineer their wheel spacing and allow for the ever popular and high load rating of the 235 85-16 for the dually.

But, hey, who are we to tell GM what they should build? :(

son of a gun,
sorry about the delay, I got w/ our ordering mgr and tried to figure your question out and when the new 9900 gvw srw can be ordered. Didn't get anywhere on either. I'll try to find out and post as soon as I know.

Searay,
as long as i'm not breaking any rules. I work at Classic Chevrolet/Hummer as the commercial and fleet business mgr.

TXDMAX,

I was hunting around in the gm media site listed in the other thread and I saw somewhere that the 3500 srw was going to be a mid-year introduction. I think it was in the whats new summary under the silverado. Hope that helps.
