For maintenace purposes, I was going to get a bottle of the hydraulic fluid recommended by GM for the clutch system on my truck. The part number in my owners manual and in the DMax supplement is 88958860.
I called my dealer and inquired about the fluid and their system does not recognize that number. The number is also not valid on gmpartsdirect.com.
My parts guy talked directly to GM chemical group, and the response from them was that the fluid in the clutch system is DOT-4 spec brake fluid. However, they also state that they are still doing 'research' on this part number and the part is not available from GM. They recommend buying DOT-4 for reqular auto parts sources.
Questions: Do I actually have DOT-4 in my system already? If GM does not have that part what did they use? Could GM have used DOT-3 in assembly and by me adding DOT-4 cause some sort of problem?
