Truck has 2500 miles was in for a leak last week (I posted this as "keep an eye on your allison filters") Tech told me I had a bad crimp in the filter. A few days go by, I check again, Filter still wet. This time dealer tells me I have a CRACK in the bellhousing. 9 hr job, ruins my plans to go to S.C. Anyhow my ?? are does the tranny have to be split to change the bellhousing or does the tranny just unbolt apart from it? Should I be looking to get entire tranny replaced? and do I have any grounds to start a G.M. buy back? Here in N.Y. vehicle has to be in for same prob 3 times to start lemon law. Im up to 2 already Thanks
skidsteer,
I've not heard of cracked bellhousings being a problem on the Allison. Unless your dealer can physically see a crack, my money is on a leak coming from a converter housing to maincase bolt or pump bolt that allows the fluid to accumulate and run out of the housing. Both of the areas have been mentioned numerous times (especially on 01 and 02 trucks) on this forum. IMHO, your dealer is blowing smoke and not looking close enough to really identify the leak. A good friend of mine who is closer to the business tells me that your dealer should contact GM technical assistance and work with them to identify and resolve the problem.
