View Full Version : oil pans
While looking over my truck today I noticed how much the 6.5 pan and a Big Block pan look alike. Anybody ever try, or just dosen't fit. It would be nice to have a couple of extra quarts of oil.

It would definitely be nice to have more oil to circulate. I guess we could try it... But there's got to be an easier way to find out. Anybody know? Maybe kennedy knows?

Rick Myers has a pan that will add another 4 quart. I put that on mine and with all the other stuff I added I end up holding 15.5 quart. Running down the road empty oil temp never gets over 175*. Pulling 15K it will get to 210*. From what I have heard that is low temp when pulling. I think it was MP was telling me normal was 230-240*.

That's great about Meyers pan, Greg... Does this make for more milage between your Amsoil engine oil & filter changes? How much was the pan & where to get it?

if your talking big block as in 454 no it will not work as the diesel pan is cut at a 45 degree angle in the front where it bolts to the timing chain cover where as the 454 is flat

Anytime you add capacity you will get longer life from the oil. I forget what Rick's email address is. If I remember right I think the pan was around $300 or so. IMHO if you have the motor out it is money well spent.

You can also add additional oil and improve filtration with a bypass Filt set up, which will allow for longer change interval
What is a bypass filter setup?????

Hi Greg, a by-pass filter setup is a way of using non stock oil filters to filter the oil better. It involves one or more filter recepticles attached to the firewall, fender or frame which acommodate better filtering as well as added oil volume, and depending on where they are installed, can make oil changes easier. They are popular with synthetic oils which get tested for brake down & can go longer between changes.
Among others, Greg, who advertises Amsoil on the advertiser's page sells these.
