View Full Version : NHTSA and the 2500HD
While browsing the NHTSA (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/home.cfm) site for recalls and complaints, I found a few complaints regarding tailgate latch/cables and tire problems etc, but zero complaints about injector failures. That tends to indicate only those of us with out-of-warranty problems ever complain to the NHTSA. I wonder if any of us here have ever registered a complaint with the NHTSA? Here in these forums and on other sites I've read tailgate cable issues are far more common than NHTSA reflects. If we expect GM to respond, it's that big "squeaky wheel" ending in .gov who really needs to know....
Unless Injectors cause accidents, injure people thay could care less- Appx 65 people have been injured by cables breaking ubexpectedly. Therefore they are involved --

Interesting, Mike. You might just go to the site and actually read the complaints they have on the 2500HD, specifically tailgate related. There are only a handful of complaints and no injuries cited. Where did you get your info on the 65 injured?
Sneaks - I read it thru a link to a news column a few months back - Some one had sent it to me after my cables broke-
It mentioned 65 or so incidents of cables snapping when the tailgates were in use by people or objects -- I know someone on this site complained about this a year or so ago. I'll look to see if I can find that email with the link & post it ......

COLLAPSING TRUCKS PROBED
The Chevrolet Avalanche may be aptly named.
Federal safety officials are expanding an investigation into 96 injuries caused by tailgate support cable collapses on the Avalanche, Silverado and other GM trucks. It's not a minor matter. Many of these injuries have been serious. Others could have been. Dale, a Kentucky landscaper, lost two days of work and suffered serious bruises and other injuries.
It's the latest boulder in an avalanche of recalls and quality problems to hit GM in the last few weeks, including:

That kind of sad -
Pay 40,000.00 for a truck, and have to upgrade a common part like that. I wish I had a picture of the straps on my old 76' Pu - to show you what they should look like from the factory...
