2004 2500HD has a GVWR of 9,200 lbs.

The front axle has a GAWR of 4670 lbs and the rear axle has a GAWR rating of 6,084 lbs. Front spring capacity is 4800 lbs and the rear spring capacity is 6084 lbs.

So why isn't the GVWR greater than 9,200 lbs?

when you hit the brakes hard, How much of that weight transfers to the front axel ? Part of the formula - If you were to max out every pound you would overlad something every time you accelerated or decellerated. There are many other factors involed too ... I'm sure the engineers will jump in here ..........

I'm sure the maxes are static. Given the static maxes, you can calculate the dynamic effects based on driving speed, acceleration etc and determine how much strength is needed. To set the standard, it only makes sense to consider the static settings though.
