Universal Joints

UH Oh,
Just realized today that my rear u joints are starting to go. I have been noticing that when I take off from a dead stop there is a shuddering coming from the back of the truck. Yeaterday I heard a squeaking coming from the back. I stopped at my family mechanic and he agreed that might be the problem after taking a test ride. I am going to let him take care of it on Tuesday. I already checked with the dealer and it isn't a warranty item. I have 40 k on the truck.It is going to cost between $100.00 and $150.00

I too had a rear u-joint squeek at ~41K. Got it changed under extended warranty. I initially thought it was an exhaust leak sound. Your local mechanic should be able to replace it pretty cheaply.

Txguppy, I told you they were using BLEM. Chevy parts on those GMCs.

Ujoints for my '01 were under $40 at the local NAPA store. They did not list an application for the Chev HD's, but ujoints from a mid '90s Ford F250-F350 fit. They matched them up by comparing the dimensions between the two trucks.
