I'm looking into H2 wheels and tires and was wondering if triming the air dam makes the edges floppy since the edge of the dam has a reinforcing lip to it?

I've seen a number of posts from people who have trimmed their airdam and no one has commented on it being flimsy afterwards. Of course that probably depends upon how much you trim...

They just make an angle cut at the corner closest to the tire. It was common practice on the C/K trucks. No weakening in my experience. You can see it in this shot of my old C/K.

Jelisfc,

I wondered the same thing when I put my H2's with 315's on a couple days ago. I looked at moving the whole bumper forward and decided it was way too much work and since many others trimmed theirs I thought what the heck! Now that the deed is done I realize it really wasn't a big deal after all. They are just fine. No one would ever even know unless you pointed it out to them! ;)

jelisfc,

I don't think that you could weaken the air dam any more than it is now anyway - LOL...

I've got to save up my money for a ranch hand replacement!

Will the bigger H2 tires work with a replacement bumper?

conradv,

From what I've seen of the ranch hand replacement bumpers they should fit with no problem. There is usually more room with them.

Ski, I'll post pics in a couple days. I'm picking up 2" blocks for the rear tomorrow. Should have them on by Saturday. I believe I saw a Road Armor bumper on an older Ford. The bumper looked great...didn't care for the brush guard tubing. I'd love one but I'm maxed out for my garage with my receiver hitch in.

jelisfc,

thanks. i also do not care for the tube brushguard. it should be delivered tomorrow, trying to line up paint. i want to modify the current bumper in case the delay of finding a good paint shop takes a while and getting back even longer. thanks for the heads up on the bumper, this will be the first purchased in my area.

Ski, Pics this weekend. Just got done putting 2" blocks in the rear. I would find a powder paint shop to do the bumper. I had an old Warn winch bumper we modified and repainted more than once. It just doesn't hold as well as powder paint. We did some demo trailers at work last year and they turned out great. Just make sure you see a sample first. It was the first time using this vendor on the trailers and the black we used didn't gloss like I expected.
