A/C got fixed today

Well the GMC dealer fixed my a/c today by installing a smaller orfice tube & lowering the freon level to 1.5 lbs. The service writer said this was the offical fix according to GM. So far it seems to cool off alot faster than before. My a/c would get cold before but took a long time to do it. Hope this helps some other people out that have a 2003 Duramax.

It was 94 here today and humid as all get out. The A/C in My Duramax is one of the best units I have ever owned, The wife keeps moving the vents away from her and I keep turning the temp down. Not any of my other vehicles have worked this good ever. I am very pleased with it.

i wonder if maybe the aftercooler and larger fan help keep more air flowing past the condensor cooling that 134 down just that much better. Anyways,It works great. smile.gif

Is the fix available to all dealers in the form of a TSB or something???

I didn't think to ask if there was a TSB on it from GM. The service writer said he's had a bunch of complaints & GM came up with this solution. It does seem to cool off faster now than before.

Just got mine back from the dealer today, they replaced a "pressure cycling switch" and evacuated and recharged the system to the correct pressure. It's like an ice burg in there now.

Well mine has been to the shop twice, for AC. The first time they replaced the low pressure switch and refilled the freon. The second time they performed the entire tsb, including filling the AC to 1.6 pounds. My AC still sucks. It will only blow 60 degree air on hot days in town, and about 56 degrees on the road. It also takes forever to cool down in the first place. But I am getting tired of leaving it at the shop, so if anyone has something new PLEASE let me know.

What is the spec on testing it anyway? It never gets real hot around here, so that might be why mine seems to work so good?

Check to see if they put in a new style cycling switch, part number 89040362. I believe it is referenced in bulletin 03-01-39-007. Also, I have heard alot lately about replacing the orifice tube. Not sure about the details on this one, but worth a try. ;)
