If so, check this link. Take a close look at the pics in the first post. I've read about a number of problems with these hitch platforms.

I order my trucks without the factory hitch for that very purpose. I will either install a manufactured class V, or make my own. I installed a Drawtite class V on my '01 HD to do the job. I like to know a little more about the equipment than the dealer discloses. Probably the cheapest hitch with the proper rating they could get their hands on.

On the other hand, problems are really few and far between. Consider the number sold compared to the actual complaints. I have heard of failed hitch platforms, both here and other places, but I do not know anyone that had an actual problem. I have had one that ovaled the pin hole, but no real failures.

You don't know how much weight I pull with mine. I watch it like a hawk though because I know it's overgrossed. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but for a stock item it's not bad.

I keep a close eye on mine too checking the welds and mounting surfaces regularly. Pulling 40000#+ transfer sleds at the truck pulls hasn't ripped it in two yet.

Michael, you have me beat by a factor of about two or so, if it ever started hopping that would be about the worst torture for it I could think of. Never thought about you sled pulling guy's.

My truck pulls nice and smooth, no hopping, jerking, ect. That probably helps the factory hitch survive at that weight.

It looks like he was using a Hensley Arrow hitch. From my limited knowledge of this product, I wonder if it could have contributed to the failure. It seems odd the way the pictures show the receiver twisting from side to side.
