Is there a best extended warranty that anyone knows about?
I plan on keeping this wonderful truck long past 36,000 miles.

Ryan Warranty is supposed to be pretty good. Not sure, but I think you have to go thru a dealer to get this.
GMPP factory warranty is also good, but the price is high. Possibly you can dicker $500 to $1000 off the asking price. Perhaps not.

There was a extensive discussion done on this a couple months ago, which resulted in several of us buying from Warranty Gold (other members rated it highly) at about $1800 for a 5 year, starting from the time you bought it, 150,000 mile (odometer) no deductible warranty that covered a 2002 D/A for everything except 7 items. Those 7 items were things like brakes and normal maintainence type stuff. I doubt if any of us have used it yet, and I hope I never have to. I bought it mainly for the Allison, possible electronics problems after 100K, and to avoid hassles from stupid service people, of which there seems to be too many out there. Time will tell.

Sorry I will not be able to answer any questions about Warranty Gold after tonight for a few weeks as I am out the door in a few minutes for Baja again.
I'm thinking about getting an extended warranty on my Duramax because it's at 33000 miles and there are lots of items on this truck that would be expensive to replace. But I have had good luck with my dealer when it comes to warranty work. I had an s-10 pickup with the 4.3 V6 that cracked the block @ 42500 miles. I had no extended warrany and the bumper to bumper ran out at 36000. The dealer replaced the motor with a new longblock and all it cost me was $100 + $6 MI sales tax. Should I push my luck on the Duramax or spring for the extended warranty?

That sounds great for what happened to you but we are talking about an Allison Tranny and One of the most advanced diesel engines on the market. The dealer is not likely to spring for something like this unless you marry his daughter.
Insurance and warranties are there so our risk is reduced.
I plan on keeping my Dmax for up to 10 years and so an extended is key for me.
GM sounds good to me so far for what I have read in the search posts.
Others may be ok also.

I went for the GM one. I figure that there won't be any room for discrepencies. I constantly read in RV magazines about third party warranty companies. Most have very strict procedures and pre-qualification proceedures for the repair facility to follow prior to touching the vehicle. If any step is done out of sequence the claim will probably be denied. There is a lot of fine print that disqualifies claims.
All that I can say is beware of the fine print. I figure that the dealer has the most leverage with it's parent company versus someone else off the street.

My truck has only 43,000 miles on it and I have not bought the extended warranty yet.
But my starter went out--dealer said it was a broken housing--and it cost me $812.40 for a rebuilt starter today. Dealer said the 100,000 mile engine warranty does not cover starter, alternator, water pump or other "non-internal" parts.
Anyway, I am going to price around about getting an extended warranty. It won't take too many starter deals or a transmission problem to pay off.

Good luck. I tried the Allisin route. Allison won't warranty a GM tranny and GM doesn't offer the Allison warranty.
I'd like to know why Allison puts that under the pickup truck heading if we cant get it.
I just bought the 5yr/150k warranty and feel much better. $350 down and 12 interest free payments through VISA. Anybody gonna get one, use my name and I'll get a $25 thank you from the company.

Last night warranty gold quoted me $2279 for the 5/150000 diamond then they came down to $1998. $598 down, 10 intrest free payments of $140. Is that good or can I get them to come down some more. My truck almost has 33000 miles on it.
We put the Warranty Gold 5/150,000 mile Diamond Plan with $0.00 deductable ... Purchase prise $1,960.00 with about $300 down and $160.00 a month for 10 months (no interest) .... purchased based upon positive recommendations from numerous persons who have used this product in the past and my dealership's service manager's statement that they had found them to be a good company to work with .... they also threw in tire replacement for a blown tire and will pay for fixing flats ... hope this helps ..... Went with warranty gold 5/150000 diamond $0 deductable. $1890 w/o financing.
I just purchased an extended warranty through the GMC dealer though the company had nothing to do with GM. I can't remember the name of the company though. The price was 1,803 dollars for coverage to 100K. Like everyone else I was concerned that if the pickup starts self destructing the cost of repair would be huge. My pickup has been trouble free so far but I am getting close to the end of the standard warranty. My luck the way it is I'll start unraveling at 37000. The 1,800 is worth the piece of mind.

I am also in the market for a GM Protection Plan for my truck. I already have 35000 miles on it and was thinking if I had to start to pay for any repairs it's going to cost. I did some checking around on the web and found this GM dealer that has some good prices, I was told from my salesman at a different dealership that the prices they are quoteing are around 150 dollars above what GM charges them for it. I had previously bought the same exact extended warranty from another GM dealer for $1680.00. They say $50.00 over their cost.
My impression is that Black GM is quoting $597.00 over their cost, but who knows for sure?
To get the "deal" I got, you need to subscribe to Checkbook magazine to find the GM (and other) dealers who have apparently agreed to sell extended warranties for $50.00 over their cost.
