Greetings,
Yesterday morning before taking my '03 in for it's first state inspection since purchase, I noticed rust in the door sill. It's the weather stripping, apparently where the tin meets. Now I have 3 other GM vehicles at my residence and none of them have this problem, especially after 11 months. After looking at the driver's side I was like, uhoh, maybe it's in more than one door and sure enough it was, on the opposite side in the passenger door. Both front doors have this problem, the driver's side is more pronounced because, well I'm the only one who drives my truck. When I took it into the dealer and showed my service manager he was like 'hmm...' I asked if there was anything they could do, he said yea, they can replace it but it will still meet in the same place. Apparently the weather stripping is already 'preformed' so the meeting point in the front door sills will be the same no matter how many times they replace it. GM what were you thinking? If I were them I would not have it 'preformed', how about we sent it in ONE piece and form it to the door sill as we go along and I also certainly wouldn't have it meet in the same bloody place, especially in the bottom of the sill, how about we put it higher up where water will not collect and then rust will not form. Hmm???
So long story short, best they can do is replace it and perhaps seal it with a sillycone :D (silicone) to prevent future problems.
A little sidenote: It's not like this truck sat a long time on the lot, in less than 36 hrs from delivery last March, it was mine, and I just passed 17k last night and keep it as clean as I can. Oh well, just a lil beef I have about GM's weather stripping installation. Does anybody else with an '03 2500HD CC have this problem?
