So I have a 03 CC 4x4 duramax with 24000 miles on it. I first noised the problem around 15000.

When I am at a complete stop my foot on the brake and I am going to turn the wheel in either direction it binds up. The wheel will turn about half a turn before it feels like I have no power steering. A real pain in the A... when I am trying to parallel park or towing my trailer.

In to the dealer I go.

After 3 days they replace the power steering pump. Great problem fixed.
Not at all has it still had the same problem. After I was told that me truck is ready to be picked up. We tried turning the wheel with the transmission in park

Mine started doing that the other day.
I have 17k on her. I will wait a little bit for them to get a fix.
Still take it in before the 3/36 to get it documented..

I think the problem has to do with the brakes running off of the steering pump also. At idol the engine is running very low rpm and the pump cannot produce enough presure to power the steering and brakes both till the rpms increase.

this is just a best guess. Mine is the same way.

Just wait til you have to stand on the brakes in an emergency and have to steer for avoidance

Hope you have dark seats...

This is a common problem with the hydroboost system. Ferd uses a similar system and has similar problems...

I would think that a smaller pulley on the pump would help. I don't think the pump puts out enough volume at idle and turning it faster should help.

My "03" at 32K has not experieinced this problem. But my "89" 1500 did it periodically from the day I boutght it till I got rid of it at 235K. Would be interesting to see what they (GM) comes up with for a fix!

Yes, GM is definately aware of the problem. Know what their fix is....Electric Power Assisted Steering on new models coming.
I fear the rest of us will choke! I hope not but considering the steering rattle that's been present for almost a decade you decide.
