I just had to post this since most posts are rants about problems or questions about things that make you go HMMMM. Well I don't have either. My 03 GMC Xcab Dura/Ally (Std JUICE equipped) has been problem free. I tow over 9000 lbs all summer with it and winters I plow lots of snow and even forget the terrain sometimes and hit stuff that jars the crap (and my sunglasses)out of the truck. I've got 800 pounds of rock salt in the bed right now and an 8 foot Western Proplow on it and I was just counting my money and checks thinking what a great partner this rig is. smile.gif

Good thread Johnny! Can't tell you how many times I was warned not to be a guinea pig when the D/As were first coming out. They didn't scare me... I took delivery of my 2001 on 11/7/2000 and it's been great! Had the reflashes done and a new steering gear box installed (to fix a squeak) under warranty, but THAT'S IT. As a full-time RVer, towing near the max limits, this has been like the TIMEX of pick-ups! :D

One can get bummed out reading some of these posts but I bought one anyway and love driving this truck! Have 12000 miles so far and purrs like a kitten.

Less than 20k on mine so far, but other than that darned plastic lock slider falling off the driver's door, mine has performed flawlessly. I absolutely love this truck far over and above anything else I've ever owned. Now I'm fighting valiantly (but loosing) against the bug to add Juice and 4" pipes... And secondary filters, extra fuel capacity, and ...

These trucks are really great all around performers. Even the gas motors perform very nice as long as you don't ask too too much of the 6.0 liter. I had a 6.0 and struggled a bit pulling 9000+ lbs hitting hills with the air on and 2 adults and 3 kids and camping gear in the bed. That type of load was unreasonable of me to ask of the 6.0 but on flat ground it was okay. Plus all travel trailers catch alot of air and incur serious wind resistance. I would never go back to a 1500 when buying new when for a little extra you can get a regular 2500 or an HD. I've had 3 of these (99 and up) so far and all 3 were fabulous performers and hammer reliable.

Thanks for the "reality check" Johnny. There are definitely too may problem threads and rarely a good service one. My 2001 now has 76,700 trouble-free miles with the only service being replacement of a belt tensioner. Running a regular Juice v4.61.

Now thats a confidence inspiring vehicle. 76000 miles with 1 minor part failure. I had been plugging mine in lately since its been well below 10 degrees here in N/East PA but sorta stopped beacuse I can't see leaving it pluggged in for 8 or more hours overnight. I bought a timer but its a 2 prong so I can't really use it safely. Anyway I just go in dry and crank it even when its been in the single digits and you know what it starts right up runs a wee tad rough for like 20 secs and then its fine. I got a late start on plowing the other morning and couldn't play the warm up game so of I went on a cold start to my first job about 3 blocks away. Truck was fine,no heat for a while, but performed flawlessly in 4 WD with 820 lbs of salt in bed and 8foot Western Proplow just yawning at the work. I open the hood every 3 weeks and add a little washer fluid, everything else is right where it should be.

Reminds me of another member who sold his house and went fulltime RVing. Truck towed great, having a blast, and just for giggles, pulled it into the scales. He was flabbergasted to find it weighed something like 9,000lbs more than he estimated!!

Turns out, the wife didn't cut back on clothes, linens, food, etc. She just packed it *all* into the trailer and figured it was fine!

I have had my engine replaced due to a failed injector, but the point is, they treated me well and replaced the entire engine rather than trying to slide out or deny there's a problem, like some other brands are known to do. This was a major factor in my decision as well. Not to mention how quiet these trucks are.

Regards, Steve

My truck has the stock fuel system with no added filtration. After 75K miles (40K of those with 33" tires) of dragracing, truckpulling, towing heavy and daily driving with way more than stock hp I've had the following go bad:

- front DS axle seal leak (warranty)
- rear PS axle seal leak (warranty)
- seal leak on the steering box (warranty)
- 2 spring isolator pads broke, (warranty - dealer installed update kit)
- cracked downpipe bracket (welded myself)
- chaffed wire that made the tranny temp gauge go crazy
- hose clamp that lost tention on the coolant return line from the turbo and weaped coolant (put a new hose clamp on myself and stopped the leak)
- some burnt up clutches in the stock allison (after playing with some high power comp boxes before the ATS L3 went in)

best of all 11.95@111.46 in the 1/4 mile :D

:D :D :D Yeah, the first time we hooked it up I thought so too! I'd only towed boats before this so I didn't know what to expect. But with it's air-ride suspension and hydraulic disk brakes it tows (and stops) great. The mfr (http://www.automaterv.com) swore it would weigh-in as promised, so as soon as it came off the line I took it to the scales. He called it... 12,800 lbs with all the options. We're right at 15k with our "stuff" (2,450 lb pin-wt). Luckily, my wife believes in "the simple life" too and only took 1/2 the closet! smile.gif

But hey, come on in...

Anyway, the D/A hauled all this with no problem from California to:

Now that I've said all this I've probably jinxed myself!
