With 1200 miles on the odometer, I finally got to make my first tow with my 03 2500 HD CC Durmax/Allison. Left Northern Virginia and towed an empty 26'tag trailer to Winston Salem, N.C. Filled the trailer up with hardwood furniture and towed back. The truck ran great!! The entire trip down with the empty trailer ( 4200 pounds empty) I cruised comfortably at 65-70 mph and never dropped out of overdrive, 15.2 mpg. On the return trip I only dropped out of OD once and that was for a long steep grade on the NC/Va boarder( I-77). Pulling the trailer, the truck kept at 65MPH, happily passing most everything. Mileage on the return trip dropped to 13.8 but I also had a strong head wind most of the trip.
What a truck, very impressed with it's stability, power, and most of all comfort. I would easily run 4 hours between stops and remained comfortable ( very rare for me). Can't wait to add an Edge Juice and my next tow ( when racing season starts). :D
