We purchased a new 06 3500 Big Dooley with the new 6 speed Allison. Traded in our 02 DMax/Allison 2500HD. I am noticing the tranny is making a whining noise when exiting the highway and coasting up the ramp to stop. The tranny will make a whining noise, the 02 did not make this noise. Wondering if anyone knows if this is normal for the new transmission? It will make the noise then stop making the noise as ya slow down more. Any comments? Thanks.

This thread is being transferred to the 2500HD/3500 drivetrain forum....

In the meantime, are you running the truck in "D" or "M"?

Otherwise, you might want to check the fluid level.

Also, some Allisons whine more than others, and they all whine a little when cold. The new 6-speed Allison is supposed to be quieter due to a new pump, but...

More Power, sorry for the mispost. Today I talked with a friend of mine that recently bought a 2005 Dmax/Ally 3500. He told me that his tranny did the same thing in the beginning. But has since stopped. He has about 4000 miles on his now. So I am thinking it may be normal, for whatever reason, will definitely keep an eye on it. Fluid level is good. Thanks.

HAD AN O2 AND IF ANYTHING THE ALLISON SEEMS QUIETER IN THE 06 i JUST GOT. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I SEE IS RPMS ARE LESS IN HIGHER SPEEDS WITH THE 6TH SPEED BUT AT LOWER SPEEDS FOR WHATEVER REASON RPMS ARE HIGHER EVEN THOUGH GEAR RATIOS ARE THE SAME. 2002 AND 2006 ltd 2500 HD
