Courtesy lights on '02?

I have '02 2500HD extended cab and I noticed that only the single overhead lamps between the front/rear seats turns on when door is being opened or when the switch is turned on. I also have a small overhead console which is in front, but it does not lights up when door is opened or switch is turned on. It only turn on by pressing the button on overhead console. Is this the way it is supposed to be on '02? Because my father has '03 and all his courtesy lights turns on including the overhead console lamps when door is opened or switch is turned on. :confused:

The 03's sound cool. My 02 lights are configured like your's. Someone other member may know how to modify 02 and earlier models to come on when the door opens and will post the instructions.

If it's any consolation - ours have the lamp under the hood and the 03's do not!
